Food distributor charged with selling ordinary cheese as kosher

[Note-There was another scandal re: Heshy Gotessman from NY that had allegedly questionable cheese claiming it was kosher, etc]

By The Canadian Press  |  May 10, 2017
A Toronto-area food manufacturer and distributor is facing criminal charges after allegedly trying to pass off ordinary cheese as a kosher product.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has laid five charges against Creation Food and one of its officials, alleging the company forged documents to knowingly sell non-kosher cheddar cheese to Jewish summer camps in the summer of 2015.
The alleged forgery came to light when a kitchen manager at one of the two Ontario camps discovered irregularities in the labelling and paperwork related to the cheese.
Court documents show the CFIA laid charges against Creation and executive Kfir Sadiklar, alleging they created and used forged documents as well as unlawfully sold non-kosher food to the two camps.
Neither the CFIA nor Sadiklar responded to requests for comment.
The allegations against Creation and Sadiklar were levelled by the Kashruth Council of Canada, an organization that certifies food as kosher throughout Canada. The council is commonly known as COR, the same label applied to foods that have passed the company’s certification process and have been deemed suitable for those following a kosher diet.
Creation received COR certification for its manufactured food, but the company ran afoul of the certification criteria and lost its status in 2012 after numerous infractions, said COR managing director Richard Rabkin.

The company continued to act as a distributor of other products that were certified kosher, which is how it resurfaced on COR’s radar in 2015, Rabkin said.
COR’s statement of claim alleges that Creation sold a batch of Gay Lea Foods’ Ivanhoe Old Cheddar Cheese to both the Moshava and Northland B’nai Brith summer camps in June 2015.
Gay Lea does produce a kosher version of the same product, which has been approved by COR and has a unique certificate and product code associated with it, Rabkin said.
Documents allege the kitchen manager at Camp Moshava noticed the package of cheddar cheese did not carry the COR label as usual and emailed Creation seeking clarification.
COR said Sadiklar emailed the manager a copy of the certificate that did not look quite right, prompting further investigation by the certification council.
The product code was not listed in COR’s database, Rabkin said, adding a close examination of the certificate indicated the code had been altered.
Rabkin called the police, who then turned the matter over to the CFIA. The agency laid charges against Creation and Sadiklar on Oct. 24, 2016.
The CFIA said Tuesday it woudn’t comment as the case was before the court.
The agency said it received an average of 40 complaints annually from consumers about potential food misrepresentation and investigates each one.
“The CFIA verifies compliance using various methods, such as investigations into complaints, facility or retail inspections, as well as label reviews and laboratory testing of products, including verification of the nutrient content or calories in the food,” the agency said in an email.

Others started sending in their checks with their return cards.

Others are opting to increase their present amount and fore go their presence at the Chasuna. It's an expense, travel, time, etc. Many Baalei-Simcha are very thankful for the larger present V presence.

UPDATE; Lakewood Bais Din L'Inyanay Shatnez, certified test center "not-reliable" R"L- must re-check all clothing

There have been numerous incidents where the Lakewood Shatnez test under the hashgocha of the  Lakewood Bais Din L'Inyanay Shatnez, has been found to be definite Shatnez even though it was certified as Non-Shatnez.

The incidents were numerous, too many to be called a mistake. The places where the Shatnez was fond indicate a complete lack of knowledge of the expertise required to properly check for Shatnez. We are not talking of re-processed issues, regular straight out "shatnez" according to any "mumcha".

Therefore previous tested clothing by above,  should be re-tested by a qualified test center.

The fact of the Bais Din certification on that Test center puts to question of the Knowledge the Members of the Bais Din poses in the Expertise of Shatnez testing.

The Lakewood Test center, is an offspring of the Monsey test Center, which has been proven on numerous occasions not to have the basic knowledge required for testing.

Therefore one should only utilize a shatnez testing lab certified by "The International Association of Shatnez testers". There are currently 3 certified "reliable" test centers in lakewood.

http://yudelstake.blogspot.com/2006/09/shatnez-in-monsey-yes-its-worse-than.html

Rabbi G.Finkel seems to have a knack to  love the ones that are machshil people R"L.
Every mumcha in shatnez testing is of the opinion that the above people don't know shatnez testing and are being machshil everyone.

Defining-The Askan [Shtadlan of yester-year] v. the Askan of today

$
0
0
The word Askan/ Shtadlan, the title public servant, has referred to a person characterized by selfless love for the Jewish people who sacrifices himself for the public good. We grew up hearing stories of people ran across Europe meeting with kings and governments in an effort to avert terrible decrees against the Jewish people. All this was done at their own personal peril and their own expense. The early klal workers in this country wanted nothing more than to spread chinuch and literally were moser nefeshfor that ideal.
Every good thing can be abused. This includes public service and community service when a trust of the people with interests other than those of the public they represent. If that happens, the people who suffer the most are all of us, all of klal yisroel, because the true askanim / shtadlanim-and there many out in there in the  trenches helping others lesheim shomayim will have lost the goodwill of the public due to the indiscretions and selflessness of the abusers.

There is a tremendous pitfall in askanus, a pitfall associated with all positions of power, especially those that are based on trust. In other words, the second an askan begins to think that it’s about me not about the cause; he is doomed to failure, because when there is a conflict between the “me” and the “cause”, the “me” is going to win and the “cause” is going to lose. That means that the little guy is going to lose.

The problem is that some Askanim become so swept up with their roles and their deeds even good deeds, that they often have a hard time separating themselves from the cause. They begin to think of themselves as the cause in itself.

If askanim want to retain the goodwill of the people and continue to help them; they must understand a few points. Firstly, it’s not about me. It’s about helping people. Secondly, an Askan is there to fill a need or a void. He’s not there to create a need and then becomes a knight in shining armor who will fix it. Don’t create a need or an organization that’s unnecessary or has already been created by someone else. If you do that, you’re not an Askan, but rather opportunist and a copycat to boot.

In addition, it goes without saying that if a person’s public service will in anyway benefit his own private business, mossador interest, that person is not an Askan, but rather an opportunist utilizing the public to further his financial or organizational goals.

One particular form of askanus is that which exists in relationship between politicians and public servants. This is especially so when individuals with personal agendas and financial interests try to become liaisons between the frum community and politicians, taking advantage of the naiveté of so many in our tzibur.

These words should not be taken as an indictment on askanus. On the contrary, it is because we feel that altruistic public services are such an integral component of preserving the welfare of our communities and ensuring the flourishing of yidishkeit that we must weed and out and separate the true askanim / shtadlanim, the true public servants, who selflessly give of themselves and their time for the public with little thought for recognition and remuneration, from the charlatans and  opportunist who sully the ideal of askanus and sully the name of our  communities in an unforgettable, unforgivable  way.

Albany, NY - A billion-dollar redevelopment plan originally proposed by former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been dealt a major setback after the state’s highest court decided the city doesn’t have the legal authority to develop the land.

The Court of Appeals ruled 6-1 Tuesday, saying only state legislators can give away public park land through specific changes in the law.

The Willets West plan called for a private developer to build a large mall on top of a parking lot outside Citi Field, where Shea Stadium once stood. To build the mall, the city would have to give private developers 47 acres of land from Flushing Meadows Park

Bloomberg proposed redeveloping the neighboring Willets Point area.

State Sen. Tony Avella, a Queens Democrat, called the plan a heist of public land. The developer is considering next steps.

No clue as to why I am writing this to you but something pushed me to write this letter and send it to you.

I grew up in Boro Park and come from a great religious family I went to 2 great yeshivas and my parents are seriously great true people as well as my 2 sisters and brothers.

I was raised with no TV, no video, no magazines, the most id hear about the outside world would be a small amount of radio.

When I was approx. 12 years old I really started to feel the urge to leave the whole religion, seriously I would cry and wonder what is wrong with me, I would wonder what's pushing me to do bad things, and when I spoke to my close friend about it right before my bar mitzvah he told me he had the same feelings.

Now I started thinking its normal and even the Mashgiach told me its normal but what I didn’t get is why could I not win the inner fight, why was I so weak, why even with the support of my parents my family my friends I just couldn’t help myself and I got worse and worse.

By age 16 I started trimming my beard something that was a serious NO NO, the side curls I had got shorter monthly, at one point it was 3 inches past shoulder length.

A month after my 16th birthday I went to Israel with the supervision of my aunt and uncle and while we where there he decided to make an appointment with a Mikubul Rabbi Yitzchuk Kadiri.

I saw him in his private office full of holy books and I started crying and told him my problem, I explained to him I want to be a good Jew, I want to follow the Jewish laws, I want to be just like my parents my grandparents etc. but I just can’t, I try so hard but its like I feel powerless, he asked me multiple times if I am careful about kashruth, If I am careful about what I eat and how I eat, I said yeah.

At the time I ate either at home my mother would cook or we would every other week maybe order from a local restaurant or a pizza store here and there, He spoke for 10 minutes non stop about the importance of being careful what you eat, I don’t remember exactly what he told me because to be honest I was thinking to myself this guy is full of it, I mean tell me to stop looking at women clothing catalogs we would get in the mail, tell me to stop listening to bad radio stations late night but please don’t tell me “keep kosher” and “watch what I eat”.

Seriously all these years went by and I never even thought about my meeting with Rabbi kaduri.

Today I don’t keep anything no kosher no nothing, I don’t look Jewish and don’t keep the holidays, I am not happy about it at all.

The class that I was in approx 12 other kids turned out just like me and my situation of turning complete off the way (derech) has unfortunately become very very common.

A few days ago im listening to a interview (4th interview) you did regarding the recent kashrus situation in the Jewish community, and you threw in some words that to many people wouldn’t mean much but to me it meant so much, you said “and then they wonder why the kids go off “le-tarbas rue” (off the way)”.
Hearing you say this even thou you said those words rather quick in the interview just threw an image of my head of Rabbi kadiri stressing for over 10 minutes to me about being careful what I eat.

Yes I am to blame for my actions but seriously I feel the food that I ate in Yeshivah growing up was not kosher like it should be, the yeshivah just cares about money and that’s where I ate most of my meals too, and that in turn didn’t give me the proper strength to fight off the bad thought and ways.

For the sake of those kids who are still innocent and for the sake of the true people who just want to eat kosher food continue the fight and expose the liars who will do anything for money.

There is no doubt in my head that the food issue is in part what is contributing to the huge increase of kids that go off the way.
Yeah I'm sure the internet and the society as a whole don’t help, but please myself and the so many others in my class and others I know had no internet, what we did have is food that wasn't made for a kid that wants to be a strong Jew.

I call the hotline or as Rabbi Goldman calls it the cold line every few weeks I grew up speaking Yiddish 99% of the day even thou I don’t talk with my family that much because of the huge amount of friends I have just like me we I still speak lots of Yiddish maybe I shouldn’t.

This chol hamoyed sukkus I was at a rest stop in Connecticut at a McDonalds I see 4 yeshivah bouchrim there eating inside they still have the curls the clothing everything, so I walk up to them (they have no clue im jewish or anything) and I ask them politely why is it that my co-worker wont eat from m'cdonalds he says Jews can't eat it and here I see they are eating, they started laughing and saying how its all the same Jews just charge more money for non kosher meat because they add a little sticker they told me the story about finkle and claimed almost everything is corrupt.

I mean seeing hassidic people in nightclubs in these days is the norm, wouldn’t surprise me if one of those guys I see in the clubs with the long beared and side curls if for a living he gives “hechshers”.

My grandmother was a WWII survivor I remember going with her as a young boy a few times to the butcher he sometimes shechted the chicken right there she would take it home and make it kosher herself etc a long very tedious process, but I would do all that work today myself not to be where I am today spiritually.

I hope one day to be the nice Jewish boy I was once.

After many meetings together with rabbi Olebaum and the community rabbis of queens, and discussions of all the VHQ kashrus violations and corruption.

In addition, Many Mashgiachim and owners came forward to offer complaints about Rabbi Schwartz and Ziskind how they need to be replaced due to all the negligence of bad kashrus supervision.

Rabbi Olebaum at first was ready to fight this battle but then was threatened by the VHQ authorities. Due to fear and manipulation. Rabbi Olebaum has decided to resign from this corrupt political queens Vaad battle.

Unfortunately, the VHQ has won the battle with rabbi Olebaum as he threw in the towel and is afraid to go against the Vaad of queens.

It is very important to scan all the letters against him and post them so everyone can see who he really is. The people who brought him to Lakewood last year should be held accountable for taking advantage of the Tzibur who are not familiar to what is taking place in Eretez Yisroel.
1> All of the Siddurim with his Haskolah emendations should be removed from the Batai Medrashim and stores.
2> The Tikun Korim that he published using his own punctuation and ignoring the Mesorah of the Baleii Mesorah should also be removed.

NEWSGedolei Yisroel Warn Against Series of Books Containing Alterations in Siddurim and Chumoshim
by Yated Ne'eman Staff

"Woe to a generation in which every man does as he sees fit. And the matter should be publicized to prevent others from being drawn in by their ways," write maranan verabonon gedolei Yisroel headed by Maran HaRav Yosef Sholom Eliashiv shlita, in a letter opposing the publication of "precise" ("meduyak") editions of Chumoshim and Tehillim as well as new siddurim and machzorim that contain grave breaches and changes from the accepted tradition handed down to us.
The letters appear at the beginning of a leaflet titled, "Ligdor Peretz," distributed in Torah halls and botei medrash of every stream and background. Gedolei Torah encouraged the publication of the leaflet to express opposition to attempts to introduce new versions and foreign ideas in what is billed as a "precise siddur" ("Hasiddur Hameduyak") in the nusach of Eidot Hamizrach containing "emendations" of the accepted nusach -- changes that threaten to damage the foundations of Judaism and cause breaches beyond our forefathers' imagining.
Similarly, emendations in the books Tikkun Sofrim Hameduyak, Tehilim Hameduyak and Hachumash Hameduyak were based on "rational inference" and "the rules of grammar," contradicting the accepted tradition practiced by Klal Yisroel.
The publishers declared their intentions to disseminate the books widely in an attempt to replace the Chumoshim currently used by all kehillos. The book, Hachumash Hameduyak, represents an additional breach by supplanting Rashi's age-old commentary with a new commentary called Peninei Rashi Umidrashim, which leaves out numerous entries from Rashi's classic commentary and includes other midroshim of the editor's choosing instead.
About ten years ago, following an attempt to publish a Chumash with a similar commentary, Maran HaRav Shach, zt"l, and ylct"a HaRav Eliashiv, wrote a letter reading, " . . . And this is a terrible breach that should strike dread in the hearts of all who hear, for who can predict what it could lead to?"
Talmidei chachomim asked to examine these books were dismayed, and when the matter was brought to the attention of gedolei Yisroel they were told the changes are cause for serious concern, particularly since the publishers openly declare that all of Klal Yisroel should adopt the new nuscho'os.
The letters written by gedolei Yisroel express unyielding opposition to the books, whose editors failed to heed various warnings by the leading Acharonim not to alter the tefilloh by abandoning the nuscho'os we received from our forefathers. " . . . And even more shocking is that they [grant themselves] the power, like Chazal, to issue decrees and to uproot, by omission, the nuscho'os of the Kadmonim"due to what they assert to be the needs of the hour.
Among the alterations was the deletion of the word "meheiroh" from the Sephardic nusach of Bircas Ahavat Olom before Shema. Although Shaar Hakavonos of HaRav Chaim Vital includes the word, the editors insist on removing it despite HaRav Chaim Vital's assertion it was brought down from the Arizal himself.
The editors also altered Oleinu Leshabei'ach,"based on the rules of grammar and speech," replacing the words "vegoroleinu kechol hamonom" with "velo goraleinu kechol hamonom." This alteration contradicts Rav Yehuda Hachossid and the Rokeach, both Rishonim who stated that Yehoshua Bin Nun formulated this prayer with exactly 152 words. This same "emendation" is recorded in the history books as one of the changes proposed by Nosson Ho'azosi, a talmid of Shabsai Tzvi yimach shemo.
The leaflet Ligdor Peretz quotes poskim from various generations who say that one should strictly adhere to the tradition handed down to us from our forefathers and practiced in Klal Yisroel for generations and who rule out making changes even in cases where the text contradicts the rules of grammar. Some poskim even write that one who alters seforim based on logical inference should be excommunicated. The various "medakdekim" have always been known for initiating dangerous trends that must be stopped to keep them from entering the botei medrash.
The rabbonim said the revisions to Rashi's classic commentary are in the spirit of the Haskoloh.
The letter was signed by HaRav Eliashiv, HaRav Aharon Leib Shteinman, HaRav Moshe Shmuel Shapira, HaRav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz, HaRav Nissim Karelitz, HaRav Chaim Kanievsky, HaRav Shmuel Auerbach and HaRav Yehuda Shapira, shlita.
Appended to the letter is a note by the leading Sephardic rabbonim which reads, "We hereby remonstrate against the changes in the holy writings and the longstanding nuscho'os of the tefilloh, based on logical inference they invented and the rules of grammar, and particularly against the terrible disdain, Rachmono litzlan, in the nusach of bircas Ahavas Olom appearing in Shaar Hakavonos. And all the words of those who make changes have no significance." This addition was signed by HaRav Nissim Toledano, HaRav Yehuda Addes, HaRav Yaakov Hillel, HaRav Yitzchak Tawil, HaRav Amram Ruach, HaRav Yitzchak Zafrani and HaRav Yaakov Attiya, shlita.
In a separate letter HaRav Shmuel Halevi Wosner backed the letter by maranan verabonon and wrote, "Today nobody has the power to undo decrees by our Kadmonim, even through mere omission, and this sin marked the beginning of the attempts to innovate that brought destruction upon all of Knesses Yisroel."
