When Josh Gutman of Baltimore was niftar at the young age of 65, his levayah was attended by hundreds of people Countless Individuals Who mourned him never even knew that in Josh's lifetime he had helped them financially. Anonymity was exactly what Josh wanted. However, at his funeral, some of Josh's deep, dark secrets were revealed. Josh’s son-in-law, Manny Topper, can attest to his father-in-law’s unassuming yet extremely well-planned chessed. Manny remembers the Sunday morning that he received an unexpected phone call from Josh.
"How would you like to take a ride with me to Brooklyn today”? asked Josh.
"Why do you want me to go with you?" asked Manny
"My friend Chaim Welds* (not his real name) daughter just became engaged, and they are making a l’chaim this evening, I figured we would drop by" answered Josh.
Manny felt more than a little surprised. Josh never went to formal affairs, and certainly did not travel out of town just for a l’chaim.
Knowing his father-in-law as well as he did. Manny figured there was more to this story and agreed to go along for the ride and the and the adventure.
After traveling together for a while Manny turned to his father-in-law and asked. "Okay, let's hear it. Why exactly, are you traveling to this l'chaim? "You and I both know there is a reason you haven’t told me
"Can't a fellow just travel into Brooklyn for a friend's l'chaim? Does there have to be another reason?" asked Josh.
Yes, I believe you have something up your sleeve that you haven't told me,” countered Manny.
After a few moments of hesitation, Josh admitted the truth. "As you know. my friend Chaim is truly a poor man. There is no way he can pay for a wedding for his daughter. I am carrying a check with me to hand him so he will be able to pay for the entire wedding".
Manny was not surprised that his father-in-law would do such an amazing chessed He was astonished, however, that Josh had revealed the true purpose of the trip.
Manny had one last question for Josh: "Why didn't you just mail the check to your friend? The wedding will take place in two months. Surely you do not need to drive over three hours each way just to hand it to him tonight!"
A smile appeared on Josh's usually serious face. "If I mailed the check to Chaim, he would not receive it for another day or two.
Imagine how Chaim would feel, standing at his simchah tonight? The entire time he would be greeting guests at his daughter's l'chaim, his happiness would be overshadowed by worries of how he would be able to pay for her wedding. Once he has this check in hand, his Simchah will be complete.
Manny was about to tell Josh what a special person he was when Josh continued, “By the way, my name is not on the check. I will place my envelope between all the other checks, so Chaim will never know it is from me'".
There was nothing Manny could say. He knew that his father-in-law was simply one-of-a-kind.

Vaad- Napoleans tactics /errors v Empress Marie Antionette
Napoléon almost conquered the world, but fell into the Russian trap by going deeper into Russian territory as winter was approaching. He should have re-treated, regrouped and waited for better weather. Result was total defeat.***Empress Marie Antoinette on the other hand did not comprehend the plight of the commoners ("let them eat cake"). She had justice done in an unpopular fashion.
The Vaad, does not comprehend the plight of the citizens of Lakewood, BTW- the Vaad refers to them as " commoners".
Therefore, the Vaad retreats to regroup and with a new wolf in sheep's clothing. Being convinced that the "commoners" are gullible.
But, the citizens look at the real Vaad (Empress Marie Antoinette) that does not comprehend the plight of the Lakewood citizens. So Justice must be meted out, not allow them to re-group, new face, etc.

Update: Kashrus Alert:Fish sticks, Patties, Surimi, etc
Pollock fish is an infested species of fish and many say it's "ossur"
Fish sticks, patties, Surimi, etc are made with the Pollock fish.
Some are using "minced-Pollock".
Minced is not ground, therefore it may have whole worms present.
Some even have whole pieces of Pollock fish in the fish sticks.
This is the reason many refrain from using anything with pollock or other infested species.
If it doesn't say "checked for infestation" don't use it.
If it say "free from issues of infestation", may mean that the Certifier is not concerned about infestation in fish, which is not sufficient for one that is concerned about fish infestation.

Why was the KAJ / Breur's Kehila the accepted kashrus by all? (as long as Rav Posen was there)
The "secret"?
When Rav Breuer set up the KAJ Hashgocha, he announced that he is setting it up without any "hidurim or chumras"
only basic kashrus.
The reason? he said was that otherwise you are left with only hidurim and chumras with no kashrus.
No one can accuse the KAJ Kehila's shechita of chasidishe shechita!

Due to the questionable kashrus standards in camps, every camp should be under a recognized reliable Hashgocha?
Did you inquire as to your childs camp Kashrus standard?Is it acceptable?
Are there written policies for the acceptable hashgochas?
If yes?, obtain a copy.
What should I ask?
1- Who is in charge? Who sets the standards?
Any shailos that arise, who is the final Rabbinical authority?
2- Are the using "exclusively" pre-checked vegetables?
If yes?, who's vegetables? not most of them, but all brands that are being used!
If no?, Who is checking them?, is he trained? if yes? by whom?
Is it only being rinsed?
3- How about fruit? e.g. strawberries, blueberries, raspberries? What is the standard being utilized?
4- Bishul Yisroel issues- Convection ovens, steam kettles, etc.
Is bishul-yisroel for sfardim being addressed?
Is a shomer shabbos present in the kitchen at all times? [flames, ovens, etc]
5- Is yoshon, cholov yisroel, pas yisroel being strictly observed?
Hafroshs Chalah- who is responsible?
6- Who is responsible to check "all" deliveries coming in for compliance to the standards established?
7- Is there a properly trained experienced Mashgiach in the kitchen at all times?
8- Is the kitchen locked at night, Friday afternoon, etc? Who are all that have the keys?
9- Are the separate areas for dairy, meat, parve, etc? including sinks, etc?
10- Are all pots, utensils, etc clearly marked for dairy, meat, parve,?
11- Who is responsible for everything requiring seals?
12- ETC.?

We assume you were not notified of the horrific event which took place at Camp Bnos (Agudas Yisroel) this past summer. It is important for you, as a leader, to be made aware that a camper was raped on the girls’ campus. She was left unsupervised and taken advantage of in the worst possible way. There were 2 boys involved.
AS OF LAST SUMMER. CAMP BNOS IS A MAKOM SAKANA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Originally, Mr. Meir Frischman admitted it happened, he has since changed his tune (obviously he has since received direction and advice from perhaps the Agudah directors, Rabbonim or Attorneys) and now denies all allegations and has completely removed himself from any & all responsibilities surrounding this situation. He has gone so far as to deny it, and refer to the RAPE as a "rumor".
The police were notified, and Mr. Frischman did NOT have them speak with more than a few people from the camp. Directors who have been in the camp for literally decades were not notified until they returned home after camp was over.From An Insider: Meanwhile, a simple observation. We are both familiar with defense mechanisms. I make observations all the time of new mechanisms that are just that, but masquerade as something else. The Agudah position, which we know to be fundamentally flawed, is not really a policy at all. It is a simple effort to cover-up the cover-ups. They cannot do different, because that would be self-incrimination.
